How to use the Encrypt File
- Drop the file you want to protect.
- Type a strong password (a long passphrase is best).
- Click Encrypt — you’ll download a .baf file.
- Send the .baf file any way you like, and share the password separately (e.g. by phone).
- The recipient drops the .baf file here and enters the password to decrypt.
How it works
Your password is stretched with PBKDF2‑SHA‑256 (310,000 rounds) and a random salt, then the file is encrypted in chunks with AES‑256‑GCM, which also detects tampering. Only someone with the password can open it.
Sending live with Sendryo? Transfers are already end‑to‑end encrypted in transit. Use this tool when the file will sit somewhere else — an email inbox, a cloud folder or a USB stick.
Frequently asked questions
Which encryption is used?
AES-256-GCM, a widely used authenticated encryption standard, with keys derived from your password using PBKDF2-SHA-256 and a random salt. Each 4 MB chunk is authenticated, so modified or truncated files are rejected.
Can the recipient open the file without Sendryo?
They need this page to decrypt it — it’s free, works in any modern browser and nothing is uploaded. Send them the link to /tools/encrypt-file/ along with the file.
Is there a file size limit?
Files are processed in chunks, so there is no fixed limit, but the encrypted result is assembled in browser memory. Files up to a few gigabytes work well on a computer.
